However, when I tried to take it in for a VA emissions inspection yesterday, it failed by a hair (only 4/10ths in the carbon monoxide category). Undeterred, I promptly drove it to a mechanic in Alexandria who had been strongly recommended to me by a fellow 240 nut. Right now, they're fiddling with it to see if they can get it to pass emissions, as the Exxon station I took it to says there is a slight misfire. I'm also going to have the shop put in a new thermostat, as well as replace the worn brake and clutch pedal pads (all Volvo parts, of course). Other than that, the 242 runs great for a car that's almost 25 years old. Also, I wanted to comment on this: the car is WAY simpler than my '96 850, not to mention that it's also more fun to drive, thanks to the M46. I'm actually getting used to not having power seats, locks, or anything. No finicky ABS module or electronic parts to worry about. I love it!     • No. I've had a '78 (don't remember if there was a DL then), and an '80, '83 and (still have an) '84, all definitely DL's, all with power locks. N.M.I. [200][1984]
