That tube tends to split open with old age. If you follow it down between the intake manifold runners you may see it torn just above the oil separator box. If it is torn, besides possibly dripping some oil, you won't be able to accurately detect whether your PCV system is drawing vacuum on the crankcase or not. If it's still sound you can perform a rubber glove test on the oil filler port in order to see if the PCV system is working.
