a/c trouble 850 1995

hey guys. ive been having trouble with my a/c; ive looked everywhere and cant find my problem so any help is greatly appreciated. heres the problem: im in college and i like to drive home occationaly but on long trips my a/c stops blowing. the fan gradually slows to a stop but the air remains cold. i had been told that it could be the blower or the resitior pack. i dont think it is these because they were replace about one year ago. when those were replaced the problem was different. then the fan stopped blowing abruptly, now it slows to a stop.

i had my a/c sytem checked at pep boys and they found nothng wrong.

i tried pulling the codes but nothing there. i dont know what to do. i gotto school in waco tx, there is not dealership close that i know of nor any mechanic knowlegable whith volvos that i know of either. so once again any help is greatly apprechiated

Can you slide the fan speed to the right and get the fan to blow on high? The B1 socket is for the ECC and if you get 1-1-1, that doesn't mean that the 2 sensors above the front doors are clean enough to keep the temperature constant.
On your next long trip when the fan slows down and you are still warm, turn the temp dials (both) to the blue mark. That is supposed to signal the ECC to go to max cooling.
Do you have a fresh air filter installed? If not, put one in. If yes, check it for dirt.

Does the fan come back on if the ac is shut off? Are you in automatic mode or maual fan speed control? If you're in automatic then the temp sensors could be plugged. They're located behind the grab handles above the front doors. Pry off the plastic cap with the hole and CAREFULLY vacuum or blow out any dust. There's a fragile thermistor device inside the opening that's easy to damage and also a small fan that sucks air in thru the hole. My fan got dirty and it sounded like a hugh bee inside the headliner. Really odd!!! Don't know if the vent fan has any sort of thermal switch but if it does it could be shutting the fan off if it gets too hot.
