OBD II Reader S40-V40

I have a dreaded CEL on my V40, and would like to dignose the problem myself. The car runs fine.

Can anyone recommend a cheap OBD reader compatible with the V40, there are many on ebay, but alot say they don't work with Volvos.

Thanks

Simon

Those of you thinking of buying an OBD scanner might want to look at www.canobd2.com and/or some other sites for a discussion of compatibility issues - regarding getting a scanner that will work on cars you might own in the future as well as those you work on now.

Right...you're talking about the new CAN-BUS system and thus the CAN compliant readers. Problem is that they are about $100 more than the other one (at least in the Equus brand). I figure that these readers are going to come down as the availability of the newer CAN-BUS becomes more abundant. I'll cross that bridge when I need to.

The one you want is called Innova made by Equus. Like the one here:

I got mine off of eBay for under $80 shipped and it's worked great on my S70 and newer V70.

That's a great deal. If the auction isn't too competitive, then E-bay's the way to go.

FWIW, I bought the same unit a few years ago for about $150. JC Whitney has it on sale right now for $99 which, until today, was the cheapest I had seen this unit going for. BTW, JC Whitney also has a free shipping promotion going on:

Hi Simon, Ill cast another vote for the Innova 3100. Its helped me out alot with my S70, as well as various other family members cars. If you cant find a good deal on ebay, check your local wal-mart. They usually have them for @ $99.
