The procedure to remove the radio? It's a secret! Push on the vertical bars on each side of the radio. When they pop out a little, pull on them, and the radio comes right out.
If you have a stuck CD, take the front of the radio off, and have fun. Remember, never use cheap CDs when burning your own. These CD players will not like them.

Klaus,

Thanks. I am installing a SC-816 replacing a HU-413 on my 2001 V70. I see the two tab on the 816 but not on the 413. I saw a message related to this subject where you need to remove the pencile holder and work up to the radio. So much for easy!

I was the one who posted about the pencil holder. These were standard on '01 and beyond. You have to stick something slim but that won't scratch into the side of the pencil holder, between it and the side panel and pop it out. Then you'll see how the radio comes out. If your car doesn't have the pencil holder it should still have a small slim panel right under the HU radio that will pop out in the same way.

HU and SC...hmmm...if you're talking about putting an older radio into an '01 or later car, hate to tell you this, but I don't think they are compatible...they aren't even shaped the same and I don't think the wiring is compatible either. Put them side by side and see what I mean. An HU for an HU is fine or SC for an SC, but not HU for SC or SC for HU.

Installing the HU Unit. I have the security codes; so how do I set them?

You'll need a Download from the Dealer V70-XC70 2001

The instructions I have say that you have to remove the cover for the fuse holder on the left side of the dash, install a 5A fuse in #15 and a 20A fuse in #16 (if you previously had a radio in your car these fuses may already be there and not necessary, but still worth checking) and then use a tool called VCT 2000 and follow VIDA download instructions that tell when to enter the code. Sorry, but looks like you're going to have to go to the dealer for this. This is because your car was previously programmed with a different radio. I wish I had realized this when you firt posted. Anyway, once your car has this new radio's code in it (by way of the software upgrade to your car, as mentioned above) then even if you disconnect the battery you'll just have to enter the code with the radio's own key pad to restore its operation. Unfortunately, you won't just be able to do this until the car knows this new radio is in your car, and the only way this will happen is through a software upgrade. Good luck...hopefully the dealer won't charge you too much.

As always; Thank you. HU unit is installed, thanks to your instructions. I don't know if I'm lucky or just Irish! Plug and play, HU is sounding good. Did nothing except remove the HU-413 plug in the HU-613. All components work; radio, tape, cd. I never did disconnect the battery to install, need to move the shift selector to low for accesss room removal and needed the power on.

Thanks for the input. You are correct on the SC vs HU. I have a HU unit that
I will be installing. Keep up the good work!
