2005 vs 2006 V70R automatic & Opinion on this model V70-XC70

Can anyone tell me what changed from the 2005 model year to the 2006 model year in the V70R. I am shopping for one & delaer has an 05 in stock - no 06 - and said there were minor chnages & I could save some $.

Also any signficant issues or problems with this model. We had a Cross Country about 8 years ago & loved it.

Liking the V70 now better tough.

Thanks.

Give my son, Lee Ramseur, a call, 800 737-1095. He sells them for University Volvo in Charlotte, NC. He has been ordered to beat any other Volvo dealer's price. Overseas delivery is the best deal of all. He should be able to help with the differences between a 2005 & 2006. He also sells Volvo peformance parts/upgrades.

My dealer says overseas delivery is the worst deal of all - no rebates, and rebates are now huge almost all the time these days.

That's because the dealer (or salesman) gets incentives when the customer takes advantage of them too....still, compare the over-seas delivery with regular purchase with incentives and you do the math. You get a free round trip ticket to Europe, a free hotel stay in a very nice hotel...a tour of the facility where your car is built, a drive through Europe in your new car, etc. etc....it's all what you're looking for, but even after the math, I concluded earlier this year that the over-seas delivery is the better deal...for you, but not your dealer.

It is all a matter of what you're looking for but in terms of price there is little comparison. Euro delivery prices are about 8 percent under list. In the U.S. from dealer inventory you're going to get at least that much discount off list, and probably more, plus rebate - which have been running $2,000 to $5,000 per car, commonly, and as much as $8,000 on S80s. And these are newspaper ad prices that don't take much any negotiating skill. Ford marketers seem to have taken over at Volvo. The net of it is that euro delivery prices are very high compared to U.S. street prices right now. But if you want the tour of the factory, you want the tour of the factory.

Ask about the transmission. The local dealer mentioned recently that they have recently started installing a new transmissions from Aisin Warner in Japan that has the capacity to take the considerable torque of the 300 HP enigne. As a result there's no need for the torque limitation of older systems.

No, if you venture over to another un-named site you'll find a bunch of guys who think it's some type of "race car", wanting to modify them and expecting far more out of it than it was ever meant to be.
We have many customers who own them, just drive them, think of them as a car and they're happy.

Performance always has a price. As for mileage, looks like low 20s from what I'm reading (yes, premium gas) and that's about what my old modified turbo wagon gets too unless my foot's in it too much.
The non-turbo, manual trans, 2WD wagons will get the best mileage for any full sized Volvo wagon.

I hate SUVs too.

Beware if you're looking for economy of operation that turbocharged engines will cost more to keep the tank filled..not only is it premium fuel, but with more air being pumped into the cylinders in each charge, more fuel is also expected due to the " fuel / air ratio" for the engine in question. My V70R (2000) I think has the highest capacity injectors in any Volvo up to 2000. Later, who knows?.
Certainly the boxy shape of the 1993-2000 series wagons is very useable.

Best wishes!

Q. How do you tell if a car salesman is lying? V70-XC70

A. His lips are moving.

Try carsdirect.com for a price quote. (The '06 Rs are being deeply discounted in my area.)

Volvo seems to have gotten a better handle on screwing 'em together for 2006. Try posting your question at http://forums.swedespeed.com/zeroforum?id=51
