Lately our 2000 V70 w/60K miles has been hunting/surging when trying to maintain constant highway speed. No warning lights have come on but is this an early sign of ETM failure? Called the dealer and they said they suspect the throttle body just needs cleaning... does that sound plausible for this car?

Anyone have ETM recall update?

See VEXED Volvo for further information and a copy of the letter from Volvo. You may be able to get your ETM replaced now. I know Don is working on getting information on the ETMs failing without tripping a code. You can also pay to get it replaced and then get remibursed later. Just know that when it really goes you could be stranded or reduced to going 10 miles an hour on the highway. Also, report to NHSTA. This is the best way for us to get the safety issue addressed.

Volvo has extended the ETM warrnty to 10 years or 200,000 miles whichever comes first as long as certain fault codes are the cause. But someone on the Brickboard said that it was not effective until next month. If you ETS light is not on, you probably don't have any codes, so you probably can't get the replacement yet.

Throttle body cleaning is the standard mantra the dealers always use. Your ETM is begining to fail. Just hope that Volvo announces the replacement soon for the other 49 states.
