Turn signal question 850 1993

I've noticed that the turn signal continues to blink when I turn my car off. I've caught it so far, but am afraid that I'm going to end up with a dead battery one of these days. Any suggestions as to what the problem is?

One of my previous volvos did this when my wife drove into her parking spot. I thought it was normal. If the turn signal was functioning when the key was removed the TS continued to blink. I thought this was a euro safety thing.

It is a Euro thing. My 71 BMW left the parking lights on, that side only, when the key was out. Used for parking on dimmly lit streets. Less drain on the battery than 4 lights being on.

One of the possibilities is that the ignition switch behind the key is starting to go bad. Reasonably easy repair job.

Thanks for the suggestion. Would that also cause the door ajar alarm to sound even after the key is taken out of the ignition?

I don't think bad ignition switch will cause door chime - in my car it is a bad switch inside the door. It's difficult to replace so I pulled the fuse for the chime out.
