Lurching/Hesitation under strong load(accerlation) 850

I have a 1995 T5-R (auto) with approixmately 98,000 miles on it.

Recently the car has been lurching under aggressive accleration. Under mild accerlation I notice nothing. However, if I really step on it and keep the pedal on the same position the car will methodically lurch.

It will accerlate...lurch...accerlate...lurch...accerlate...lurch. This sequence is consistent. It continues as long as I keep accerlating (I start to get nervous as I approach 80mph. Every 1.5-2 seconds the car will lurch as it loses accerlation and then the accerlation will come back.

And ideas are appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

The wastegate on the turbo may be opening prematurely. Check for clogged vacuum lines down near the firewall, on the air intake line. Also check you air filter for dirt.

Bad gas could also be a culprit.

See if the ECU has set some codes and clear them...otherwise, sounds like it could be a clogged vacuum system (PCV) or intake.
