VOLVO XC-70 AWD V70-XC70 2001

I am considering purchase of a 2001 XC-70 with about 60000 miles. Looks like a clean deal. Does this model still have the same probelms with the evaporator coil breaking?

Are there any other issues on this model that folks here know about to check?

thanks!!!
alan.

I am on my second XC70. My first was a 98’, had some small problems most fixed by the dealer under warranty. Drove it 98,000 miles with no major problems. Now I own a 04’ XC70 w/ 31,000 miles bought it new. No problems to speak of (fingers crossed). It is true, Volvos Cars, SUV and Wagons are expensive to maintain and repair. Especially AWD models. But this is true with all AWD & 4 wheel drive vehicles. So if you like a semi-off road vehicle that rides like a dream the XC70 is at the top of my list.

Does it come with a warranty? If it doesn't, I wouldn't buy it. 3 months after I bought mine with a warranty for $1000 more, the compressor died. The waranty paid for the compressor.

I've had my 2002 XC since new. The car has less than 45000kms (about 27000 mi)on it. In the first year there were numerous electronic problems involving malfunctioning mirrors, door locks, and front seats, not to mention a rear main bearing seal that had to be replaced. In subsequent years one transmission computer chip and one lower front ball joint and cv boot were replaced. Right now the car is back at the dealer yet again to have a disturbing rumble in the front end looked into. The rumble developed on the last day of the warranty, so it'll be interesting to see if the dealer will honor the warranty. As you have probably gathered by now, I'm totally unimpressed with my first experiment with Volvo products, therefore this first Volvo will also be my last. Be advised also, they're very expensive to repair.

FYI Franz, the dealer repaired the rumble on my 2002 XC by replacing the right front axle and c/v joint . They thankfully processed it as a warranty claim, otherwise it would have cost me CA$900. Good luck with your 2003.
