Rear-ended 850 850

Just got a little rear-ending this evening in our
1994 850 wagon. No injuries or anything, I would
guess somewhere between 10-15 MPH - I was stopped
at the time. I am planning on having a collision person
take a look at it, but was wondering if anyone out
there has had similar experiences with 850 volvos
in similar accidents. There is minor cosmetic damage
to the bumper cover - should I be concerned about
anything else? It happened at night so tomorrow in the
daylight may reveal a little more.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

I had a similar hit on a V70. The bumper brackets were damaged, but they took the impact, and there was no damage to the body other than that. However, since the brackets were bent down, the bumper was down, and after a few days, the heat from the exhaust melted it.

Since you were hit from behind it is automatically the other driver's fault. Their insurance should cover it, and there should be no deductible.

I have a 95 with similiar mileage. it is worth about $5000. Deductible is $500. You may have some crushing of the styro foam inside the bumper. If it were a bicycle helmet made of styro I would spend the money to buy a new one. As long as the other protective devices(air bags, side beams, etc.) are not damaged I personally would not spend ten per cent of the value of the car to replace a part that may constitute twenty to forty per cent of the car just for cosmetic reasons at this point. Bumpers, in my opinion, are to protect the body of the car from minor contacts causing major expense for cosmetic reasons. The other protective devices are to protect you from major damage and expense.
    Keep on driving!

There is more damage under the bumper. I had the same type of hit. It was more than I expected.

      Deductible ??? 850

"Since you were hit from behind it is automatically the other driver's fault. Their insurance should cover it, and there should be no deductible."

Erase "should be"; insert "is". They owe you all your costs to repair, unless the car's totalled, which apparently it is not, in which case they owe you the Actual Cash Value of the vehicle.

Hopefully they're not one of the 30% of the schmucks out there who don't carry liability insurance. Then, it's either out of your own pocket or from your auto carrier --- with that deductible (if you even carried comprehensive on it).

I got a letter from the insurance agent today.
The other driver was ruled at fault in the accident.

The company has been very cooperative in settling
          the claim - no deductible.

          Thanks for the input.
