Alignment Problem S70

I have done up the alignment for the car numerous times. But I am still getting the same problem.

The front wheels alignment and camber are normal. The rear wheels alignment are ok but the camber is out but within the acceptable tolerance limits.

In driving condition, with the the steering wheel aligned horizontal, the car keep pulling to the left and it is quite drastic and high speed. At low speed, the shift towards the left is gradual but noticeable.

Could it be a parts related problem? Someone help please.

Flop the left and right side tires. Duz the pull go to the other side? Bad tire.
If you have uni directional tires, flop front to back, if the pull goes way down, you have a bad tire.

Or, your alignment shop could be crap. Many are. I use a guy who rebuilds wrecks, he isn't afraid to pull the car if that's what it takes to get the alingment right. He also charges twice what Firestone wants. Every alignment he has ever done on any car I have brought him has been perfect. The guy cares. Lots don't.

I suspect worn control arm bushings on the right side, causing the control arm to shift when you step on the brake. I had the exact same problem. I changed the right control arm to fix it. It no longer pulls left.

Alignment Problem S70

Guys, the service centre fixed the problem by adjusting the steering wheel column. They said the alignment were fine and the column adjustment must have been made without my knowledge in some other tyre centres in their bid the set the "alignment" right.

The car still pulls to the left slightly (not as bad as it was earlier) and the reason claimed for this is the uni-directional tyres I am using (Firehawk Wide Oval). Not sure how true it is but I have heard similar version in the past from my friends. I also understood from them that the use of special camber screws but set this problem right.

Thanks for all the responses.

I have my alignments done by a race shop that specializes in Porsches. I figure that it they can get a race car to track straight and not vibrate at 200mph, a Volvo station wagon on the Parkway ought to be a piece of cake.

I've found the Volvo to have an unusually stable suspension design. It's always tracked pretty straight and true. Even when suspension parts are worn it doesn't seem to have much noticible effect and I used to drive the car pretty fast, most of those miles on the car are highway miles.

I have uni-directional snow tires on the car now. I have uni-directional 3 season tires too, and I've never noticed the car pulls, even when they were put on backwards by my Volvo dealer!

You could have a wheel bearing that is going bad...do you hear any whirring noise? Another option could be a draggin brake caliper. AFter driving for a while, your left wheel would be hotter than the right.

if it's the crown in the road it won't be pulling left.

that's assuming, of course, you're in north america and driving on the right side of the road.

some roads are relatively flat. try it there. you might pull a little to the right but nothing extreme.
