Instrument display bulb replacement question 850 1993

I recently replaced some of the bulbs behind the instrument display. When I drove the car afterwards, I noticed that using the right turn signal causes the towing light out bulb to flash in synch with the turn signal. I don't have a towing package. Could this be a symptom of a loose bulb or have I screwed up something more complicated? (It doesn't happen with the left turn signal.) Thanks for any help.

    "towing light out bulb"

You mean the Bulb failure warning light? You could have a dead turn signal or one that doesn't have the right resistance thus triggering the bulb failure light.

    Check your lights.

Instrument display bulb replacement question 850 1993

Thanks for your response. However, the bulb in question is not the bulb failure warning light that shows an orange light bulb when one is burned out. What's blinking is a light with a "1" between arrows pointing to the left and the right. It's located in the same display area as the bulb failure warning light. I had to go to the owner's manual to identify it since it doesn't regularly appear when the ignition is turn on. It's probably the same in the '94 Manual for your 855. (I did doublecheck the turn signal lights and couldn't identify any burned out bulbs.) Any additional thoughts?

OK I got my hands on a 93 owner's manual and now I see the indicator that you're talking about. It looks like Volvo got rid of it 94+ because it's not in my book. The description says:

        " Turn signal indicators, trailers
When towing a trailer, this light will flash simultaneously with the turn signals on the trailer. If the light does not flash when signaling, neither the trailer's turn signals nor the car's turn signals are functioning."

Sounds like one of the wires that a trailer would use is a little bare causing it to complete the circuit and make the indicator turn on exactly as it is supposed to.

It was a warm morning so I went back into the dash and pulled the light panel again. I tightened all of the bulbs, hooked it up again, and the problem was gone. Just another Volvo quirk--I'm always amazed when I find a new one. Thanks for working with me.
