Intermittent high pitch noise + metallic smell...bearing hub?

The V70 (1998 T5, 109K mi) is the daily driver. Recently, didn't drive it for 3-4 days, and just after startup there was a higher pitched noice coming from the front end - only when moving. Lasted less than a quarter mile, then it was gone. Duplicated the problem once since. Again, it only happens after the car hasn't been driven for a few days. If someone made me guess, I'd guess a bearing hub is going bad. Anyone else have this experience?

Separate (related?) note - just about every time I get up to 30-40 mph for the first time after startup, I can smell a distinct metallic smell for maybe 15-30 seconds. Then it seems to be gone. Also a recent development.

I would have said Serp. Belt or tensioner, but if it only happens when the car is moving...in other words, the hub is turning with the wheels, then I would say that is it. Someone else posted about this same issue recently, so you might check down lower in all of the posts.
