850 ignition switch or ABS module or both 850

Hi All - The ABS light has been going on and off on our 1996 850 wagon (about 90,000 miles). We do know about the ABS Module problem and do plan on visiting Victor if this is the problem (we are fortunate as he lives nearby!)

But.....we have had the ABS light go on and have not been able to get the car from park into drive on start up. Jiggling the key a bit in the ignition has helped - ABS light goes off and can move car out of park (or sometimes light stays on for a bit - but we can at least get the car out of park). Read that this could mean ignition switch - electrically side - problem.

Also...ABS light goes on occassionaly while driving - it seems the brakes vibrate and/or make a noise when the light comes on. Light will be off for days, then back on. No problems with headlights or speedometer. This seems to be a module problem?

So...switch problem or module or both?? Or?? And which to start with first?

Oh...we got our new evaporator last summer - expensive!!

Sam

From your description you probably have a faulty ABS module and you definitely have a faulty ignition contact plate. So, replace the plate and see how many of your evils are fixed with that and if the ABS light continues to come on, and it probably will, then get your codes pulled and replace the module if that is the fault.

Either way, I should contact Victor. He may be able to shed some light on your apparent non-ABS issue, and he might enlighten you that they are somehow related.
