Turn signals not working correctly on V70 V70-XC70

Hello:

The turn signals on my V70 occasionally come on steady instead of blinking. This happens for left, right, and hazard. The bulbs come on - they just don't blink and the tic-tic-tic sound is absent. In this state, the hazards also will not come on without the key in position II.

When the car has been parked for a while, they work normally, but after some driving the problem comes back. I've double checked bulbs, fuses, and for other electrical issues. None that I can find.

Does it sound like a bad relay? If so, how do I access and evaluate it?

Thanks,

Matthew

Turn signals not working correctly on V70 V70-XC70

Hi Matt,
This appears to be a common problem on the V70 Classic and is probably temperature related since on my car the fault cleared after parking for a half hour.
The direction indicator/hazard electronics are all contained within the hazard switch module so the fix is to replace the hazard switch module which is easy and reasonably cheap.

First pull the radio out of the centre console and from the rear push the hazard switch module out of the console then refit the radio.
Pull the hazard switch module out of the centre console and pull off the cable connector. Refit the cable connector to the new hazard switch module and push it into the opening in the centre console ensuring that the symbol is orientated correctly.

We started having the exact same problem 2 weeks ago. Could you let me know how your repairs progress?

Thanx!

Certainly does sound like a relay problem. Even if you told me what year of V70 you have, I could not tell you for certain where it is. Turn on the blinker and listen for the sound. You will have to remove the driver's side kick board.

May not be right, but I think I have been told that the relay is actually part of the emergency flasher switch assembly in the dash, and that is why the thing is so expensive. That switch can be removed just be pulling the radio and getting your fingers in behind switch to push it out. A used one should be fine, as I don't hear of them failing often.
