Rear main seal replacement: Anyone done one ? 850 1994

Afraid it is going out. I am not afraid of trying, but wondered about anyone's experience. Suggestions and comments most welcome.

It's not for the timid. I own my own shop and do them routinely but it requires a special tool to support the engine and you will need something to support the trans when you pull it out. I have heard of some guys going so far as to pull the engine and trans out complete and then seperating them when they are on the ground so they can get to the seal that way. Boy that sounds like a lot of work for a rear main seal. Either way there are parts of it that you are going to want a second person to help you with. I have done them by myself but man handling the engine cradle by yourself is a bear to say the least.

      Mark:

Appreciate your input. I have the engine support and a roll about transmission jack. Also have my son to help out. Am trying to find a "cookbook" on the how to. Fortunately, this does not have to be done in a hurry as we do have spare cars.

Will study more before diving in, but it would be an experience. Have to put in a new PNP on the car too, so guess that is part of the undressing of the car.

As always, thanks for your valuable input,

      dick

Do a search...someone did one a few months ago and had a full write-up on it including pictures.
