looking at '95 855t 850 1995

Found a 95 855T. Car has 90k. White ext/blue leather int. Sounds like it's the second owner. We have been emailing each other. Purchased in '97 under original warranty. All maintenance done on schedule. Garage kept.(aren't they all garage kept.) Only thing he mentioned is the Ac is NOT working. I already know what time that is. Owner wants $4200. Sounds a bit high to me. Im waiting on a respose from the owner so i can go take a look and take it for a drive.
Thoughts?

My 95 just turned 90K miles. And the AC needs a new evap. Is that all my beautiful car is worth? I take care of my cars and have all of the receipts, the tires are fairly new, brakes are good, tranny is clean, engine has synthetic, etc.
    I wouldn't give it away at $4200.

KlausC are you saying that @ $4200 is a steal? Owner emailed me back and it seems that heis pretty much stuck on the $4200 amount. No room for negotiation. I may pass on it because i currently have two other Volvos to manitain. '90 245 with 110xxx and '92 745t with 155xxx. Don't think it is worth it to try take on another 10 years plus vehicle that may have have additional costs to maintain.

On the other hand, I mos def would not get a loan, purchase a newer Volvo with a warranty payoff the loan then down the line have to deal the newer Volvo issues that probably don't compare to the 850 series issues.

      Nahmean?

KBB.com in the twin cities is around $5500 for "good" condition, no rear seat, etc. at the private party price. The only way to know is to look. Check where the car parks for larger than quarter size oil leaks - fresh. and check for oil on the rear main seal. You know the AC won't work when it gets warm out!

All Volvos need to be maintained. I add a couple of cans of r143a to get the ac working again, $1500 buys a lot of cans!
The price depends on the condition, of course. If it is a city car, it's going to be banged up. The leather seats will probably be cracked from the heat. the bumpers are going to be gray. the turbo oil return seal probably leaks...

....but the turbo return line is cheap and not difficult to do.

Do all you plan to do (look/drive/have mechanic check it) and if all checks out, tell the guy that to fix the A/C (Evap., I suspect you know) is $1500 to fix, so get him to come down on his price if all else is well. Also check the pcv vac. hoses...these, if clogged will cause a leak in your engine seals...esp. your Rear Main. Good luck!
