98 S70 T5 auto shifter knob sticking S70 1998

The switch on my auto shifter sticks. It wont fully release and is annoying because when it sticks the key wont release (assume its tied into neutral safety switch).

The face of the knob around the switch has a hairline crack which is either a symptom or cause of the problem.

So, what is involved in changing this out and where can/should I get a replacement. Or should I let the dealer....deal with this.

Thanks,
Hauland

Same problem on my S70 ('98)...sprayed WD-40 in it 6 months ago and it has held up fine without any more sticking. May have to replace it some day but at least this has been a good temp. fix.

I had a look through the archives, and yes, you can replace the shifter knob. I don't think the lock switch itself is replaceable, if I remember correctly. A new shifter is around $200 at the dealer, and if you go that route - let them install it for you.

www.ipdusa.com

ipd has a solution - check their online catalogue under "transmission". I think the cost is $24 (plus shipping, of course).
