Broken PCV Tube 850 1996

Hi,

While replacing the flame trap on my 1996 850, the rigid black tube leading into the crankcase broke about 3 inches down from the PCV valve. What is the best way to proceed to replace this tubing? I am guessing it involves removing the intake manifold...

Thanks.

Torjus.

Did you break the tube from the flame trap or from the oil trap? Big difference. You may have to buy at least that hose and related ones. This diagrams below should help you know what you broke, the part number(s) and what to replace. It is advised that if you have 100K miles or more, to replace the entire PCV hose system. fcpgroton.com sells a kit for your car. It's a bear to do and will take you all day if you've never done this before. To replace the oil trap or related hoses you'll have to take the intake manifold off. The kit in question doesn't come with one, so you'll have to buy it separately, but it's cheap.

Thanks - I ended up taking off the intake manifold and replacing the tubing. It was a bear - 6 hours solid, but at least the hoses are done. In hindsight it might have been a good time to replace the oil trap as well - any views on how long they typically last?

      Thanks.

How many miles on the car? close to 100K or more, definitely replace...not expensive, but I know that I'd hate to get the manifold off again if I were you. I've seen these blow up from so much crud in them. Some have tried to take them out and clean them but it's a mess...just replace is the recommended solution.

I broke mine hard plastic tube also, I spliced it with two clamps and a piece of fuel hose. Seems to work. I will not take off my intake unless it blows up!
        To chicken.
