I just responded w/ this info to Wheel's thread, and thought i would pass the info on. My Volvo dealer/mechanic told me that Volvo has NO recommended service intervals for the automatic transmission on our 99 XC. However, he could not agree with this. He stated that the automatic trans should be serviced at 30k intervals. A transmission service eliminated a transmission "shutter" that we were experinceing (@ 70k) in our XC.

    I replace my fluid if it begins to discolor noticeably - so far this is about every 60K miles.

    That was the same line Volvo used for the 850s. But, if you want to keep your tranny happy, flush it every 25-30K miles.

      I agre with klaus on this, if you see what ocmes out at 25k so would you. Interestingly you will ifnd that what Volvo ACTUALLY recomend is that it doesnt need changing UNLESS the vehicle is used for towing, in mountains or as a taxi - then they recommend its changed at 30k intervals (all this for an 850).

      Now to my way of thinking i cant see what the differnece isi n me driving to work and a taxi doign the same trip - if anything a taxi should be better as all the fluids will stay at operating termperatures etc...

      for my money learn to do ti yourself (easy & clean) and do it every 25k, got to be cheaper than a new transmission!
