questions about 2006 S60 2.5T S60

We have a 2006 S60 2.5T, 4 mo. old and 3.4k miles (we bought it with 13 miles on it). It has been really good so far. I have a few questions though:
1) When the engine is turned on, particularly the first time in the morning, there is a intermittent (i.e., on-off-on-off-...) background noise lasting about 1-2 minutes. This was mentioned to the dealer, and he indicated that it is some sort of automatic adjustment; the on-off-on-off-... noise and its duration are peculiar to me, however, and I wonder if anybody else has noticed similar symptoms.
2) The steering wheel is clearly ellipsoid in shape and not circular. This is the first new car we have bought this way. Are there others out there with this shape?
3) The coolant temperature increases rather slowly (about 1/3 the speed of temp. increase seen in our 1995 850T), but it does get to normal operating temperature. Is this a characteristic of the S60 (2.5T)?

Any help/suggestions would be great. Thanks.

The 1995 850T has been a great car with relatively little maintenance so far (for 11.5 years and counting); we hope this new one will be good too.

    questions about 2006 S60 2.5T S60

I'd say this is all normal. Our '04 V70 also warms up slowly and there is an on-off-on-off with some type of fan. Since you're still under warranty, if something just doesn't seem right to you, complain and let the dealer figure it out. We had a climate control fan making a lot of noise and at first they said it was normal but replaced it for free as well as the windshield wiper motor which we complained was excessively loud.
