If you have a PC, give Alex Peper's software a look. Give you OBD II DTC info plus lots more for ~$140. Check (I think) OBD-2.com

Forgot to add that Peper's software WILL reset the 96-97 850's "Service" light.

Generally, the tool to do just this runs > $130.

If you live outside US, then don't buy OBD2 scanner. Won't work.

try www.scantool.net but their product connect to serial port. I've seen similar product but with USB connector, but sorry I didn't keep the address

I live in the U S my trip computer is reading in metric do you know how to change it to U S .

I think you just hold down the Hour and Minute buttons together and it'll cycle through between metric and SAE. Should be in the owners manual.

Didn't get an owners manual. Used car. I often wondered why doesn't this manual stay with the car. What does anyone but the car owner need it for?

Ownersdocs has all written material. For $25~ you can call volvo's 800 number and order one, same price as the dealer but you get it in your mailbox.

I have never understood why people clean out the glove box and throw them away.

According to the manual, the trip computer can be toggled between degrees Celsius and Fahrenheit, and 12 hour and 24 hour time, but not miles/km displays.

It's apparently hard-wired into the unit depending on which country it's going to.

I've never bought a used car that came with a manual. My thought was that since people generally never read them, they immediately throw them away.

OBD2 is just a translator between computer your computer and your car's computer, so you will need few bucks more to buy exotic software...
Free software just tell you the car's health and sometimes is able to stop the car from whining (but not curing).
Some software will translate their reading from Km to Mile, usualy under setup. BUt definitely they will not convert your car's odometer from Km to mile.
