If you have removed and inspected your oil separator (trap), was it clogged? 850

Many people have given helpful posts on keeping the rebreathing system (hoses, oil trap, flame trap if present, etc.) clean.

If you have dealt with crankcase overpressure and went as far as removing your intake manifold to check the oil trap and lines, what did you find?

I am thinking to do this and would like to know what to expect. The car has 135K miles and is non-turbo. Performance, fuel usage and emissions are normal (no diagnostic codes either), but it uses at least 1 quart of oil per 1K miles and there is definite overpressure. There are no external leaks at all - bone dry everywhere I can see. The oil seems to get dirty quickly. Whenever I have cleaned the flame trap (about once a year) there is a fair amount of oil that has accumulated in the intake and throttle body area.

Have done the work on a S70. Hoses were in pitiful shape. Not even sure if things were clogged or not, but I replaced everything...peace of mind. Seems to run better now, but maybe it's just psychological. Read up on the Oil Trap/ Oil Separator thead below this one that I posted on. Maybe that will give you some ideas about a '93 without a turbo.

I change oil separator and lines last fall and opened the old box to find almost nothing inside (sludge). For the cost of it and if you what to be sure just change it. My car is turbo however. The problem was the rubber elbows that were rotten and the side hole of the air inlet duct valve that was partially closed ( not sure if you have one/ check FC Groton for picture). If you do not change the lines make sure they are not blocked or broken specially the vacumm line (the smaller one.)
