Rattle help.

Hi all,

I've got a rattle that seems to be coming from the glove box area. I've removed the box and snugged all the bolts in that area with no improvement.

It sounds like the spring seat. I replaced the spring seat (which was blown) but not the mounting plate. I also replaced the end-links.

The bearing in the mount has some vertical play. Would that cause a rattle on start-up and over rough roads?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. It's driving me batty.

Thanks,
Bryan

It's the hood.

I finally found the answer in the archives (09/2004).

The hood moves causing the rattling sound. The solution is to adjust the catches and/or more rubber between the hood and the frame.

I am glad you found your own solution. The problem I had with suggesting answers is that you never indicated what kind of Volvo you had or what year. My V70 has a rattling front hood with the catches lowered all of the way. There are no other adjustments. My 850 has adjustable stops.

Klaus,

Sorry. I forget that my signature doesn't include the car info.

Yes, it is a '98 S70 GLT.

How did you finally control the rattling noise from the hood? I also have the catches at the bottom position.

For now I've stuck self-adhesive weatherstripping on top of the rubber pad attached to the hood. I wonder why Volvo didn't provide any adjustment like there is for the trunk lid.

Thanks,
Bryan

I have tried all kinds of remedies, all failed during the summer heat. The self-adhesive weatherstripping sounds good if I can get it in black.
