If it's over-heating it could just be a bad thermostat.
Milky means you're getting condensation and the engine needs to be warmed up and the car driven harder for longer.

If it is indeed just a leaking head gasket then I would simply replace the head gasket. If you broke a belt and bent it all to hell then it makes more sense to drop in a used motor.

Sounds like it's carboned up and condensation in the oil. As already stated, I'd replace the oil and run it on the hwy for at least an hour. Also, once it is heated up well, stomp it once in a while to "blow out the carbon". If it's the headgasket you may find out for sure or you may luckout.
