Assuming you have checked all the sockets for codes and if you have your radio code handy - try disconnecting the battery. That 'fixed' a code I had once on my '93 and also fixed flashing lights on climate control.

Just like a desktop I think a good idea to 'reboot' sometimes!

Disconnect for at least 15 minutes or longer...for a there to be any difference.

You have to have a bad code to have the check engine light come on. A1 is for tranny, A2 is for engine, etc.
Look at the 700 FAQs to find out how to turn off the service light and clear any codes. Just go to the top right hand corner of this screen and pull down the "select link" menu.

For a 93 I believe it can be reset by following the instruction on the attached link

If this still doesn't work, try the A-6 socket. I know it sounds strange, but another person posted the exact same thing over on Matthewsvolvosite.com and the answer was the A-6 socket...don't know why.

Not sure about the 93, but on other years the check engine light can be turned off with OBDII scanner. Once all codes are cleared the light should go out. The service light reset requires a special tool that also plugs into the OBDII socket. I purchased a reset tool for my 96 on Ebay.

Sorry Oliver, but the '93 850 is nothing like your '96 in regards to reseting codes or turning off the service light.

I guess the 93 being pre OBDII could be quite different. Just offering up my experience on the 96....

Yeah, the '93 is done with the two diagnostic black boxes in the engine bay...in some ways the earlier car owners are lucky...they don't have to use a scan tool to get their codes or reset things....even the service light.
