coolant sender problem S70

The float on my 2000 S70 turbo's coolant reservoir has sank to the bottom of the container. Now the low coolant light stays on. Any ideas as to why this is? My guess would be that it has a hole in it. Can I buy just the float at the dealer?

Many thanks,
Dave

I picked up a new coolant level sensor at the dealer yesterday. I put that on and the low coolant light went out. One of the technicians said it could also be a sticking float, in which case I would have to replace the whole reservoir.

I don't believe it floats...seems there's a clip for it inside the expansion tank...either that, or the so-called float is in the right place but the connector underneath the tank has come loose. Check these things and post back.

I'll go back and look at it again. I'll probably have to siphon out the coolant so that I can get a better look. This problem happened after I unclipped the reservoir to get at the T belt cover bolt. I hooked the wire back up for the sensor, but the light still remains on.

Thanks,
Dave
