fuel pump failure?? 850

I have a no start condition...ignotion shows spark, and when I checked the fuel rail valve a couple of days ago there was fuel. Went over all the checks tonight, and go only a little drizzle from the fuel rail valve. Disconnected the fuel inlet to the fuel filter, and a little gas came out. I thne cranked the engine and no gas came out of the line - is the assumption the fuel pump is dead correct? Any other way to test the pump? I swaped out the fuel relay (in fuse box) as well as the fuel relay in the radiator panel rail, but still no start.....and no engine codes...so must be fuel pump, correct?

thanks
mark

    fuel pump failure?? 850

    Hey Mark,
I'm beginning to suspect a possible reason for the "no start and stalling" problem on the '84 850. I myself have had problems with periodic stalling after a short stop and have come up with the following...
    Spark is good,
    Vacuum is good,
Fuel delivery is bad. (low, or non-existant.)
    Injectors are okay.
    Relay is okay.
    Pump is okay.
So, what I'm thinking is that the fuel is being drawn back toward the tank and creating a negative flow. (more pronounced when the temperature is above 65F.)
Try removing your gas cap, pump the accelerator an few times and see if she starts.
    Let me know,
    Armie

    Hi Mark,
Any luck diagnosing the fuel delivery problem?
By the way, if you want to part with your old fuel pump relay (at a resonable
price) and have a paypal account, or would take a personal check, let me know
    and I'll make arrangements.
    Tks,
    Armie

If you have a digital multimeter test the leads at the fuel pump for 12 volts when you turn the key ON. If you're getting voltage to the pump then yes I would say it's a dead fuel pump.
