bad idle with vibrations 850 1994

Hi,
for one week I have poor idle conditions, on higher rpm s it runs fine and has power there. One could compare the symphtoms similar as having choke on in old cars.
sofar I've checked: no codes from A2 nor A6, running temperature ok
-all vacum lines going out from the distribution tower are ok, carburrator body is clean with two holes in the bottom open.
-flame trap is clear, spark plugs are in fine condition
-idle air control valve gives small vibrating feeling with power on but is it working correctly? how to check
-regulated gas pressure shows 2.8 bars and is regulating fine
-checked most electrical connectors accessible around
my plans next:
cleaning of the distributor cap and reneval of the HT cables but, I really don't think my problem is there as spark plugs were fine and high rmp power is there.
any better ideas to offer?

Hi, did some additional check during week end:
    - distributor cup, HT leads, OK
    - idle air control valve, OK
-renewed air filter and checked the air intake temp sensor, OK
and did some additional cleaning up, after this got A2:1-1-3 i.e. short term fuel mix too weak twice so far, thus next I will look after the injectors on the fuel rail as I can hear the engine is not running propperly and the fuel filter was renewed 8 months ago and shouldn't thus be the reason for the problem.
The upper torque arm bushing is worn out and all others are also original.
I'll keep you posted till the reason is found - thanks for your ideas so far.

I'd have to find my chilton's/hayes manual for specs, but check out the Throttle Position Sensor (TP). Perhaps it's giving the engine management unit a signal that keeps it from going into idle mode (can't remember the state - either closed or open-loop).

    Good luck.

Has your fuel usage gone up a lot? Is the exhaust dirty or smoky (and if so when and what color?)

May have leak in "accordian" air intake section. Dirty air filter?? Bad ignition wires/dist cap/rotor.

Is your front motor mount and torque arm bushing original?

I was going to ask the same question about the upper torque arm bushing. Several places sell replacements for these that are silicone. They last almost forever and are much easier to install than Volvo's own. www.fcpgroton.com and www.ipdusa.com sell them. In fact I just replaced mine a week or so ago in my '98 S70. The rubber circle was not completely loose but the inner part was torn. I suspect that if I had kept driving with it that way, I would have experienced similar vibrations as you after a month or two.
