1996 rear Caliper bracket problem 850 1996

Hey Brickboarders I had some BAD luck and need your direction. I was replacing the Rotors on my 1996 850 turbo wagon, and the right rear caliper bolt, (top bolt) broke off in the bracket. I drilled it out and then the tap i was using broke off in the bolt. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Can the car be driven a SHORT distance to a mechanic shop with one bolt in the rear caliper? can the bracket that the caliper bolts to be replaced? Any ideas for drilling out the broken tap?

Did you mean that an extractor broke rather than a tap? I am asking because you would normally remove the old bolt before you would retap the hole. In any event, both are very hard metal and will be a challenge to drill out but that's what you would need to do. Pick up several good quality drill bits of the appropriate size and use cutting oil to help with the drilling. If you make the hole too big, you may have to pick up a helicoil kit to make the repair.

Ouch! If the shop isn't too far away and you can use the parking brake to make gentle stops, then go ahead and putt over there - with the flashers ON.

My reverse drill bits probably wouldn't help either.

Remember that whenever you use the front brakes, the rear brakes are also going to be applying pressure. Could you clamp the brake line?

Call the shop you are taking it to.
