Does 2001 Volvo S40 T1.9 use gasoline or diesel? S40-V40 2001

I got two questions about 2001 Volvo S40 T1.9:
1. Does it use gasoline or diesel?
2. I heard that Turbo is easy to get broken. Is that true? How to take good care of this car?

Thanks a lot!

    Does 2001 Volvo S40 T1.9 use gasoline or diesel? S40-V40 2001

ALL American Volvos use diesel. The instrument panel should say "unleaded", which means gasoline. 87 Octane will work just fine.
Check the back of your owner's manual for the weight of engine oil and then only use synthetic. Volvo turbos will last over 150,000 miles easily, so long as the oil is clean.

      Ooops... S40-V40 2001

Wow! Did I make a boo boo! Except for a couple of early 1980s 240s, Volvo no longer imports diesel engines to the USA.
Please do not use that green handle at the gas pump!!!!

It was 82-86 2.4L non-turbo diesel in the 240, and 83-86 (supposedly 87) for the 700 series turbo-diesel 2.4L. Both engines were indirect injection type by VW.

I think Klaus meant to say that NO American Volvo is diesel.

Thanks MIJ. You are very correct. I should have gone to bed earlier!

It would help to know what country you are in. In N America, only gasoline versions were imported. And it was called the "1.9T" A 1.9 diesel was available in Europe, but since you didn't say petrol, I'll assume you're not there.

With proper oil changes, gentle driving for the first minute or so when cold, and a 15-30 idle period before shutting down after a hard drive... most turbos will last the life of the car. Use of synthetic oil, such as Mobil 1, would just about insure that.

I got 322,000 miles from my turbo(1994 850 Turbo) till I hit the car in front of me. I suppose the turbo is still good. Only used regular oil any kind even Walmart brand. changed at 3,000 to 3,300 miles with a new filter.
