Steering Wheel 850

Hi all. Brand new to the Board and am very excited to have found it. More questions than answers from me I'm afraid, and I just want to start with a simple one. There seems to be a band of soft material exposed on the steering wheel of my 97 850 wagon. Presumably this is due to sun exposure through the windshield (the next question is reconditioning the front seat leather).

Is the fix here simply to buy some leather and tie it around the perimeter of the wheel, or is there something else that can be done to renew the wheel, short of replacing it?

Thanks for any help.

D from PA

Welcome to the board! My 97 850 had/has the same worn surface on the steering wheel. I put a Wheelskins Wheel Glove on it and am very happy with that product. I happened to order mine from http://www.ipdusa.com/ but you can get it elsewhere. It was a really tight fit and a pain to lace up (wear gloves!). I think it took me over an hour to put on. But it feels nice and luxurious and has held up two years now without signs of wear. Not cheap either, but worth it especially since the wife likes it. Note that putting on a cover like this makes the wheel thicker, however I have come to like the hefty feel.

Thanks for the welcome. Checked out the IPD site and expect I'll be adding a "glove" soon. Thanks for the tip!
