Interesting Door Ajar/Key/Ignition Issue

After removing the key from the ignition and opening the door the car bings at us (like when you leave the key in the ignition and open the door.) Therefore, and understandable, can’t use the door panel lock switches or the remote key fob, but can lock the car manual. Any suggestions as to what the problem is and possible fixes? Thanks in advance.

Interesting Door Ajar/Key/Ignition Issue

1999 is the first year for all new electronic survelance by the computer. That is why I ask for the year. Still, with the miles, it may be just a problem with the ignition switch (which is behind the key lock).
Try jiggling the key counter clockwise before removing it. If that ends the warning bing, you will need a new ignition switch. If not, be careful your battery does not run down.
Your key fob doesn't work with the key "in" the ignition? Door lock on the master doesn't work either? That is NOT correct. They should always work. Could there be a problem there?

Interesting Door Ajar/Key/Ignition Issue

Thanks Klaus,

I've tryed the jiggling, no luck. But I'm a bit confused about the battery running down and how it relates to this problem?

Interesting Door Ajar/Key/Ignition Issue

When the alarm is turned on, but all of the parameters are not met to completely set the alarm, older 70/850s will have the red light on top of the dash blink every second, instead of 3 seconds. The computer is active and waiting for a response from the sensor and continuously asks if the task is done. It takes a few days to run down the battery this way, but it will require more energy than a successful shutdown.
There should be a code stored somewhere, probably a Volvo specific scanner only.

How about year and model?

It helps to narrow the cause. Miles on the odo are also good.
