Timing belt replacement help 850 1994

I am in the middle of replacing the timing belt on my '94 850 Turbo. I am following the directions on Bay 13, but am having trouble identifying the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley. I can find the cam marks with no problem, but I cannot identify the crankshaft mark. I have rotated the engine, noting that it takes two rotations of the crank to rotate the cam once. Even after studying the pictures on Bay 13, I can't see a mark in the valley between the teeth on the crankshaft. I also have the cam "lock" tool from IPD, but it doesn't seem to want to fit. Has anyone used that tool and found it helpful.

Any help in finding that mark would be appreciated.

Timing belt replacement help 850 1994

On the crank gear, a tiny notch in one tooth. On fitting the cam lock, it can be a little frustrating and very small changes in cam position can make or break the fit. It is a fiddly thing, but really well worth using and it just take practice and adjustment

Timing belt replacement help 850 1994

I replaced the timing belt on my 850 last
week. The timing mark on my crank pulley
was very, very difficult to see. The damper
pulley however had a timing mark on it
that was very easy to see - look on the
back side of the damper pulley (harmonic balancer)
It was inside the pulley, above the timing
sprocket closest to the fender (it is stamped
on the pulley) that mark lined up with my
other timing mark on the crank and was way
easier to see.
