$1300 for exhaust? 850 1997

The exhaust system on my 97 850GLT just separated at the cat. I got it welded back together for cheap but they tell me that when it comes time to replace the cat and the rest, I'm looking at $1300. Is this right? If not, what am I looking at paying?

Thanks

I replaced mine from the Header back for about $1200 CDN - All Stainless steel, with larger piping, 1 aftermarket high flow cat and 2 very good quality resonators, with a tip. I'm sure this would be in the $600-$900 range with stock components (depending on whether this is dealer of course, which would change that price dramatically). Try going to a shop that specializes in exhausts only - they tend to be much cheaper in my experience.

IIRC, I replaced the exhaust pipe/muffler on my 854T and it cost around $280, with new hanger and pipe extension at the dealer parts dept. Cat converters go for around $250-275, plus gaskets. The dealer is also probably going to install 2 O2 sensors while the converter is off the car. Still, a lot for easy labor.
If you DIY, the car needs to be at least 2ft off the ground to get the tailpipe replaced, it is all one piece.

Just replaced mine for $700 plus labor for Walker brand (Life time warranty) at the local Indi Shop in WI. Part of my 93's rear main seal work at 93,000 miles. Total bill was $2800. Complete exhaust, new radiator and heater hoses, new seal front and rear on motor. New Water pump, tensioner, tensioner pulley, timing belt serpintine belt and serp belt tensioner. New injector seals and new Sway bar bushings.

I am glad to hear that you did all of that for a good price. I hope you also cleaned out the oil separater while you were at it. That is the usual cause for a main seal failure.

Forgot to list that. Did that as well with all nnew fittings and an intake gasket. The fun never ended on this one. I talked with the mechanic and he enjoyed the project greatly.
