97 850 aftermarket stereo install?? 850 1997

Hi all,
I was wondering if there is a place to get the parts needed to put in an aftermarket 1 din type CD player. The Volvo cassette takes up so much room in the center there. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

The divider the other reply references basically divides the opening into 2 standard DIN slots. I bought a standard DIN-sized head unit from Crutchfield and they sent me a DIN-sized storage bin for underneath the unit. It's actually easier to install the unit because of the space underneath.

I have a 2000 Volvo S70 sedan with a factory double DIN head unit that needed replacing. The Kenwood DPX301 is somewhat unique in the double DIN arena because it comes with a metal installation sleeve that allowed me to mount the unit securely in the S70 dash. Most double DIN units do not come with this type of mounting hardware, and thus would be difficult to secure in the Volvo S70 radio opening.

The Volvo S70 factory radio opening is double DIN sized, but there are two plastic ridges about midway on sides of the opening that serve to lock the factory unit in place that must be removed for the Kenwood installation sleeve to fit. I used a simple hack saw blade to remove these ridges, and the Kenwood installation sleeve mounted into the factory radio opening perfectly.

Additionally, the Kenwood trim ring happens to be exactly the right size for front of the S70 radio opening. The use of the Kenwood DPX301 installation sleeve and trim ring results in a flush, factory looking fit and finish in my S70. The black face of the unit looks great in the S70 dash. I especially like the Display Off feature, which leaves only the key controls backlit with a red glow that fits the appearance of the Volvo dash very well at night.

Both CDs and MP3 discs sound really fantastic with this Kenwood player, far superior to the Volvo factory head unit. If you have a Volvo S70, or another Volvo model with the double DIN sized radios like the SC900, SC901, SC815, SC816, etc. then the Kenwood DPX301 is definitely worth your consideration.
