It's got me scared 850 1997

This morning I just left the house and noticed that all of the instrument panel was "dead" - no gas gauge, tach, speedo, etc. The radio, other lights, etc all worked. I was afraid to turn it off in case it wouldnt start again but I did and it started right up and the instrument panel was back on.

I know intermittent electrical things are tricky but any suggestions what to do and where to look before it happens again?

Thanks.

I have a 99 V70. Started getting the "idiot" lights off and on. After changed
the battery out, which was old, all lights functioned as should. My clock was
also giving me signals the battery was weak - - that was the first clue - the clock wouldn't keep time.

It was a small electrical part my Indie said they have never ordered before!
I forget the name but it is a small Bosch switch? # MTR03 0027100124 with a 6 prong male connector. I forget the name and can't find the receipt.
Thanks everyone for your help.

Check your battery my car did this too. New Battery fixed it. Although it could be other things such as ignition switch or connections. How old is your battery?

found article in Bay 13 but I am not sure if the same is for the awd. http://www.volvospeed.com/Repair/ignit_switch.php
I got a 95 turbo wagon and just started to experience the drama. Car will not start when hot...I got to wait a few minutes to restart. ABS and TRac light came on once and pedal went weird with ABS pump making lots of noise. Pulled over took out Abs pump fuse and drove home. Later I put fuseback in and things work great. I can shake the ignition key and get erratic electrical results so I will be changing the electrical portion of my ignition switch.

Have you ever replaced the electrical portion of the ignition switch? Mine was completely dead-in-the-water when it failed (under original warranty) but it's often the source of really weird electrical symptoms.

Usually the only time I can't see the LCDs is when the battery is disconnected.
