1995 850, actron reader shows p303, p304, p300, multiple cylinder misfires :( 850 1995

Sadness has taken over me. For the past several months, my 850 has gotten worse and worse. Whether I'm idling along, or giving her the gas, the car has little power. Stuttering, stammering, and so forth. Even cavitating. These codes show misfire on cylinders 3 and 4, and multiple misfires. I know my ignitor is good. I've inspected the distributor and rotor, they look good.

Could this be a problem with the injectors, or even voltage to the injectors? I mean, is that a possibility i should consider? I suppose I could inspect the spark plugs, and replace if necessary.

The strange thing is that this does not happen all the time, sporadically the misfiring will stop and i get full power, but there is no consistency at all. Most of the time the power is falling out.

Thanks, just looking for suggestion or ideas. Been a while since I've been on here, but I knew this was the place to go.

Because the temperature is getting warmer, it may just be that your engine coolant temp sensor has gone south. That will make the ECU think it is cold outside and inject fuel for longer time periods than if the air was warm.
I doubt it is the injectors, but a bottle of injector cleaner won't hurt anything.
How about a tune up? New plugs, wires, distributer cap and rotor. Keep your happy for $100.

    1995 850, How to pull codes... 850 1995

How to pull codes on '95 and older 850's with DTC boxes under the hood.

    Gather Codes;
    Ignition off
Stick the flylead attached to the cover into A2 socket
    Ignition on
press the button next to the led once
Codes appear as blinks, copy down the code onto paper.
Press button again after code displayed to see next code.
After all codes displayed, codes repeat.
(ie continue copying down codes until first code repeats.)
1-1-1 means nothing's there (hopefully, all OK).
    Switch off ignition.
Just because a code is there doesn't mean that it is a 100% certain problem for your car.
Electric spikes etc may occur giving false readings on the diagnostic system.
Reset the system and then see if the error codes reappear.
Fault codes can't be deleted until you have read them all at least once.

    Reset system;
    Ignition off
Stick the flylead attached to the cover into A2 socket
    Ignition on
press the button next to the led once for about five seconds
    release
    red LED will light
when lit, press the button next to the led again for about five seconds
    red LED goes out
Ignition off, keep the flylead attached to the cover into A2 socket
    Ignition on
press button once for a second, ensure codes are cleared
or write down code(s) repeat code gathering procedure.

GEE HAW!! A veritable bumper crop of codes!! 850 1995

Pulled my codes mere moments ago, so be careful, they're still hot...

These are pulled from the A2 socket. Yup, looks like I've got misfires on the #3 and #4 cylinder. The question now is how do I troubleshoot it? I could replace the spark plug wires, they're over 11 years old anyway, but they look absolutely fine. No cracks, breaks, etc.(I know that doesn't necessarily mean anything). I'm guessing, though, that it's the fuel injectors. I've noticed that if I have the car in gear, and I'm sitting still, the engine will stutter and stumble like crazy, but if I move it out of gear, it will eventually smooth out. It's as if being under a load, i.e., in gear, helps to cause the situation (especially when driving or accelerating).

That's what I'm looking at anyway. Any ideas?

      thanks,

      Kevin

The code 300 is just misfires on more than one cylinder. It would coincide with the 303 and 304 codes. Have you read the DTC codes from the DTC boxes under the hood? They may offer more information. How old are your ignition wires? A new set may solve your issues. But get any DTC codes discovered from the DTC boxes first. These OBDII P0XX codes you've discovered should be available from the A2 socket along with some other codes possibly shedding more light. They'll display as 4-4-3, 4-4-4, or 5-5-3, 5-5-4 codes. Good luck.

Thanks! I'll pull those codes first thing in the morning. Care to remind me of which hole I plug that lead into?

Concerning the ignition wires, i believe they are original to the vehicle. I see no cracks in them, they look very good to me. I can also grab them and jiggle them a lot, and this causes nothing to happen, i.e., that has no effect on the engine good nor bad. I may go out tomorrow and purchase new wires and plugs anyway.

I suppose this could possibly be caused by faulty injector(s). Does anyone think that is possible?
