oil drain torque value V70-XC70

Gang -

What is the torque value for the oil drain plug on my 2004 V70 2.5T?

I seem to remember 26# but I can't find it anywhere.

I had a VERY difficult time removing it when I did the next oil change after dealer service. And I could not remove the filter (18.5#) at all using a "cap wrench."

Thanks.

Bob

We have the same car and I do my own oil all the time.
In Nm's it's 25 for the filter and 38 for the plug (as per Volvo maitenance software torque specs). This translates to 18.5Lbs ft on the filter and 28Lbs ft for the plug.
I agree with you about the filter housing. It's a pain. I've bought wrenches from both fcpgroton and IPD and they both slip before getting it to that much torque. So, I just get it as tight as I can and let it slip and call it a day. I've never had one leak. Just make sure you put a new rubber gasket on the housing in the same spot the old one comes off. Also be careful you don't break the housing getting it off (or on too for that matter) especially after someone else puts it on way tight.

I was so concerned about the filter wrench that I asked my dealer about it. They have one that's like $75 but it's much sturdier and heavier metal. I"m not willing to pay that for a filter wrench...absurd, but I'd say it's a better fit. However, even with that, the mechanics are asking for new ones about twice a year as they wear out and won't torque up to spec after awhile. Go figure.
