2001 V79 XC Noise when Turning V70-XC70 2001

My wife's 2001 XC is making a rather loud noise when it is turning at slow speed sharply to the right. It sometimes sounds like a groan or clunk. Any thoughts of what I should be looking for? It has about 80K on it, other than electrical problems that come and go the only other problem we have had was a ball joint replacement on the drivers side at 60K. Thanks, FJJ

    2001 V79 XC Noise when Turning - Help! V70-XC70 2001

I have recieve no responses to this post. I drove the car again yesterday, on slow tight turns to the right, the tires squeal and there is a large groaning/vibration in the drive train.....I hate to take this to dealer without a clue...has anyone seen this before? Thanks, FJJ

      2001 V79 XC Noise when Turning - Help! V70-XC70 2001

I figured out what the problem is, I have a broken spring in the left front tower. Any idea what this is going to cost me...should I tackle this myself or is this a dealer job? Thanks, FJJ

Broken spring is very rare. Sure it wasn't a "spring seat?" Whichever, You'll need to change the other side at the same time. You can go after market and beat the dealer price and do a "mod" at the same time if you want. look at www.fcpgroton.com as well as www.ipdusa.com (a bit more expensive, and shox.com . H&R springs are my personal favorite, but I don't drive an XC, so not sure what is best for you. You might start another thread with "What Springs would you put on an XC" as topic and see what you get.

Also while changing the springs (really not that difficult...a couple of hours, tops) take a look at all of your other suspension parts. Would be a good time to replace what's worn. You may even be in need for new struts...and this might have been why one of your springs broke.

Thanks, I will start a new post as you said...I agree a spring failure is rare, the only thing I can think of is that my 21 year old son has been driving it for the last 2 weeks while he was fixing his, I know this is probably not fair but it is amazing how hard on the equipment the young ones are. Thanks again. FJJ
