Hi - Just purchased a 99 S70 AWD after a long absence from a Volvo. I have owned numerous 1800ES in the past, started out on a 122S, came across the country in a 1800E loaded with all my possesions, and owned a 77 242GT for well over 300K, sold it to a high school kid, he in turn gave it to a friend and it still is chugging along....so anyways I have two issue's with the new purchase.

1) Lower front motor mount is bad. I dont have a manual yet, but it's looking like I have to go thru the passenger wheel well to gain access to it? Any other hints? It looks like the front seal may be leaking as well. (only 65k on the car)

2) It looks like the car has an intercooler for the turbo and air intake runs under the radiator via a moulded plasic piece connected to the bottom of the radiator with a large rubber hose connected to it. There is a small drain hole in this molded plastic piece and I have oil leaking out of it, not much, but it is leaking. Any idea what is causing this?

Actually a third issue, I smell anti-freeze when I set the climate control to anything above 72, so I'm assuming that the heater core has a slight leak. Where is it? Is it one of those disassemble the whole dash thing to gain access to it?

I'm a little surprised at these problems, in light that the car only has 65K on it - perhaps Ford doesn't have a better idea....

Thanks for any help

The guy that designed the heater core for the 240 was promoted to the 850 ac evaporator location. The heater core is accessable by removing the kick panels next to the accellerator. There is a picture of it in http://www.volvospeed.com/maintence.htm

Yes, you have to go through the wheel well to replace that mount. Most people then use a clamp to hold up the plastic wheel well protector. Then, you can put your car up on ramps and use a floor jack with a piece of wood under the oil pan to lift the car..don't lift more than a couple of inches as this puts undue stress on the cv joints and drive shafts. You should be able to replace it in this manner. In regards to the intercooler hose (I assume you're talking about the 90degree one) if it is really soft, you might consider replacing it, but most of our cars get some degree of blow-by oil there and it is fairly common and not something you should be so concerned about. I try to take mine off and clean it out every oil change to be sure.

You really ought to download the 850 service manual that's posted on this forum. Although it's not for your car, there are enough of the same components used it should prove very helpful. Big differences that your car has that you won't have any info in it about is your ECU and other upgraded electricals such as the ETM.

Good luck and welcome to the forum and congrats on your new S70!
