Charcoal canister S80 1999

Does anyone know what is involved with replacing the Charcoal canister.
I have been getting the P0442 message and they think that the canister is leaking. P0442 is a emissions leak.
They said the whole exhaust system has to come down to replace it. Which in turn means alot of money.
Any advise on this matter??
Thanks

Check the J-hose first for cracks at the couplings. This is the hose that goes from the charcoal canister to the sensor. I have a crack and I'm getting a po442 also. I hear replacing this hose cures the problem 90% of the time.

A simple vacuum test on the canister will determine if it is really leaking! Just replacing it is an expensive test! Have the vacuum lines been replaced yet? That cannister is pretty bullet proof.

What they did was a smoke test. They said the smoke was showing from that area. That they would have to pull the exhaust and part of the suspension to see if it was the canister or the hoses. They also said that they have no idea how long it will take for labor.
      Thanks
