Help with parts list for rear-facing seat V70-XC70

[This question concerns the optional rear-facing kids seat I'm installing in a 1998 V70. I understand that the same seat design was used for several years so this thread should be relevant for V70 up to about 2001 or 2002.]

Hi, all:

A few months back, I bought a rear-facing third seat for my V70 on EBay. I had hoped that I would receive something approaching 100% of the pieces that make up the seat. Unfortunately, this was not the case.

It turns out that the seat consists of nearly a hundred parts, large and small -- only a few of which look like obvious seat parts. There are dozens of small parts -- clips, brackets, screws, etc. -- many of which look like they might have just been part of the car. Whoever removed the seat for sale simply left many of these parts in the original vehicle and sent me only the big pieces.

So after some research (and with help of J. Hagen, who kindly provided a copy of the installation guide), I've compiled a detailed list of all of the missing parts. In the list below, each part is linked to an illustration that gives some idea what it looks like.

Now I don't have any hope of getting the original seller to come up with the missing parts. Instead, what I'm hoping is that some of you who have this seat might be able and willing to provide more detailed descriptions, measurements, and/or photos of the various parts. The drawings from the installation guide are hand-drawn and not to scale in most cases. If I had accurate descriptions and measurements to work with, I should be able to purchase or fabricate reasonable substitutes.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide. If I'm successful in getting the seat installed, I will gladly combine all of the info I get into a seat installation "how-to" with photos if anyone would like it.

Best regards,
Elissa Miller

1) Oilcloth? What the heck is an oilcloth?

Okay, here's the parts diagram for the rear facing seat. I had to upload into 2 different pdf files because it's basically a "print screen" and all the parts wouldn't fit with one attempt. Just paste each of the URL's below into your browser. When you get to the filefactory site, click on download with free filefactory basic software and then it will take you to a second page. Scroll down about half way and click on the download file and you'll get the pdf file for download. Do this for both. HOpe this helps.

Thank you! The parts numbers will make it possible for me to pursue this through a non-dealer parts vendor. Hopefully it won't be too expensive to buy these things. If the cost of the official Volvo parts is too great, I will have to keep looking for someone who'll shoot pix of their third seat installation so I can try to rig something up from regular off-the-shelf stuff.

      Thanks again!

that's a pretty cool feature. Could you post the same drawing for the rear latch assembly on a 1998 v70 tailgate?

      TIA
      Chuck

Sorry, Chuck, but I only have the diagram for installing the third seat -- I don't have similar material for the rear latch. (But I do have a rear latch problem -- when it's extremely hot outside, the latch mechanism doesn't work at all. When you depress the handle, it doesn't engage the latch. As soon as it cools off, the latch works fine. It's a real pain in the summer, but I've learned to work around it.)

Anyway, I hope you find what you're looking for. I'd suggest posting a request for the diagram under its own heading instead of buried here in a thread about the third seat.

        Regards,
        Elissa
