alignment ... Yo Made in Japan 850 1996

Made in Japan, I believe you are an expert in wheel area..

I just replace my tie-rod and ball joint, so I aligned the wheels afterwards. The shop gave me the alignment result, and to me it's just like blood test result where you can read the status and the standards and I don't have a clue what they means...

First of all, the software was ML3000 PC. The mechanic had to pic model and make from a list, so I told him to pick 800 series but whithin the 800 series there was no 850, so I told him to choose s/v 70. I assumed that s/v70 has the same mechanical structure as 850.

There are some figures that is off the standard range but the mechanic can do nothing about it, such as camber. The left wheel is 01'32" where the standards is -1' +- 30"... what does this mean?

The castor is 2'47" left and 3'52" right... which is still wihtin the range. but my question is.. is it normal that left and right wheels shows different figures?

The Toe is also off the standard. its -0'11" for left and -0'18" right...while the standard is +0'02" +- 05"...

Are those figures safe?? and what need to be done since the mechanic can do nothing to fix them...?

Thanks.

Your numbers are not "off the chart", so it is not a safety concern. Gas milage and tire wear will also be fractionally off. After visiting a couple of local alignment places, I opted to go to the dealer and get my V70 aligned - all 4 wheels (awd). They were more expensive, but they knew exactly what needed to be done. I also asked them to make sure that the wheels were aligned to spec, not off by an acceptable amount.
Turned out that my right front ball joint needed replacing.
Now the V70 has hands off at 70mph.

By no means am I an expert and to be honest, I don't really understand those numbers either. Klaus can probably give you better information. In the meantime, I'm including a spec sheet for a '95 850 (from the downloadable service manual- if you look here, you'll find the whole thing) which I think would be the same as your car. Compare the numbers to what the alingnment shop actually did.

From what I can tell, Caster looks fine...toe-in and camber might be a bit off. Wouldn't think it would affect safety...could affect steering, how the car feels and how your tires wear...but like I said, Klaus will probably know a bunch more.

Thanks Made in Japan and Klaus.

Wish that I can hands off at even slower speed. the steering is leaning to the left a bit..

Actually the ball joint was in 'acceptable' condition but the bushings were worn and I don't know if that has caused the tire torn in the inner side. The tire wear was not visible from the sides, luckily I found out before it blew.

4 wheels alignment? The mechanic told me that the rear wheels alignment is fixed and nothing can be adjusted.. or may be I need to see other shop.?

So, what happend if the caster and camber is off... can it be fixed or just say good by to the car.

It certainly can and should be at least checked and if off, should be done. Only Camber (-1 n 0.05degrees) and Toe-in (0.07 or 4.2'n 0.18degrees or 10.8' over both wheels) can be adjusted. The "n" in the diagram has a little squiggly line over it...not sure what that means.
