battery problems at this time 850 1996

Hello all

Just wanted to take this time and introduce myself. My name is Texas_Johnny and I am the proud owner of a 1996 Volvo 850 GLT.
Right now I am having problems with the electrical system. for the past three days my car will not start in the morning, I have to jump it off my other car with no problems.... it starts up right away and i have no more problems till the following morning.... I have to jump it off again.

I check the battery, its fine... but sometimes when I get out of the car and return the sit is not in the same postion were I left it.

Now,,, maybe !!!!! does this affect the battery going dead over night!!!!

I will wait for a response

Best Regards
Texas Johnny

As another poster said, a warped glove box door is a common problem on these, especially in hot climates and it will let the little light inside burn all night. Normally one night isn't enough to drain the battery, but once a battery has been drained all the way down it looses capacity. Take even a brand new battery and run in completely dry 10 times and you may well kill it.

Texas heat is very hard on batteries.

You probably have a current leak such as the glove box light and/or some other leak and a toasted battery.

John

If the battery is over 4 years old, get a new battery. You need at least 10.5 volts to run the starter, which includes running the fuel pump, the cold air pump, the fan, etc.
If the seat moves after you get out, it may be because: your left leg pushed against the #1 button for memory while you are getting out, or your kids are playing with the seat. Always make Mem #1 your position.

Check you glove compartment light. The doors typically warp and the light stays on all the time. As the battery ages it becomes weaker and can't hold enough charge overnight with the light on all the time. Glue or tape a spacer (penny works) to the inside of the glove box door to press in on the switch. Also make sure the battery connections are clean.

I assume you mean the seat in not in the same position as when you shut the car off. In that case, I would venture the electric motor for the seat is running at some point after you get out of it. May be the switch is shorted and the motor is not strong enough to move it while you are seated but can when it is empty. Disconnect the harness or take out the fuse and see if that solves the dead battery problem.
I recently went through a period of "dead battery" situations and even though the batteries tested "good" with a load meter and the alternator tested "good" under a load, turns out to be a "cheap" battery was the source of the problem.
If you do not have any other symptoms I would try the seat first and get it out of the system electrically. Move it to where you want it and then disconnect.
