Any good trans shops in LA area? 850 1995

My 95 850T with 210000 miles is slipping AT. Nothing happened while driving. It delays a few seconds after stops then engaged to gear, as if it in neutral for a few seconds. It happened during hot days or after long drive. No codes, no flashing arrows, flushed with Mobil 1. Is my AT going bad? Ordered Rain-X and try flushing it again next week. About how much it cost to replace one? Any good place in LA area?
Thanks

Seems to be a somewhat common failure with the '95 trannys. Mines been doing it for a few years now and I have half your mileage. Running w/o the ac helps. I also installed a Hayden aux cooler which helped a little but it's gadually getting worse.

Email Mark (rule 308) in Fountain Valley. If you take it to a tranny place, they will charge you for a rebuild and that will be more than the car is worth. A used tranny may not be any better than what you have now, who knows?

Mark will be happy to look at it and give you an honest opinion. It could be something simple as the downshift cable needing adjustment.

Stay away from Power Cerritos Volvo. My parents 850 was there earlier in the year, and it had to be the worst Volvo dealership with which I ever had to deal. And that is really saying something. Where abouts in L.A. are you located? Google is always helpful in tracking down a Volvo mechanic. Have a wonderful morning :)

I just priced one out for a '00 S-40 yesterday, they are real similar and the price on that trans is $2400.00 from Volvo. Sad as it is, that does not even include a new GPS, you think it would. You're looking at about 750.00 in labor to replace the trans and the rear main seal while you are in there. I strongly recommend hanging a new GPS unless yours was done somewhat recently. So there you have it, you are in the area of 3400-3500.00 for a factory Volvo rebuilt trans. You can shave a little off of that by having a generic trans shop R&R the gear box for you but you will get what you pay for. I doubt the adaptive values will be reset (and that is a must), do they have the factory tools to put that rear main seal in right, maybe maybe not. Not that you want to hear it but a factory trained tech will give your car a look over and will know all of the known issues on the 850 and give you an honest evaluation on the rest of your car that you are not going to get from your run of the mill trans shop. Sorry to hear that your trans is going south on you, it is not a cheap proposition at all.

      Best of luck,
      Mark
