2006 XC-70 Cross Country. Car is running fine, and oil consumption is darn near zero. However, I find it to be disturbing that at 2300 miles that at start up in the morning that she spits blue oil smoke out the tail pipe for two seconds.
My thought is a turbo seal issue, anyone else run into this?

Baught a lease return '04 about a year ago with 33000km. The dealer replaced the turbo before putting the car on the lot so a faulty turbo seal or such like early in the car's life isn't unheard of. According to the shop it was doing some blue at start up and under full throttle too. Hope they see it your way.
Like the car!

They saw it my way when the CEL fired up and the plugs were fouled. One new Turbo, five new plugs, an intercooler flush, and an oil change later, she is good to go once again.
Thanks for the input folks, this exchange gave me the opportunity to ask for a reasonable resolution to the issue!

You will take this car back to the dealer shortly, and whey they reply that it is normal, you will say SHOW ME. This is not normal, you would flunk any emissions testing, and they need to fix it.
I hope they give you a nice s60 loaner!

Well folks, the OSD XC-70 finally hit 3K miles (4500 short of the first service). I talked to the dealer about the blue smoke at startup, as well as two indies, they all said, wait until 7500 miles for the first service, the engine isn't broken in yet... this is the cause of the blue smoke.
Since then, oil consumption has gone up like a rocket, perhaps 1/3 quart per 500 miles. Once I saw this, I decided to take a look at how much oil was in the intake and boost plumbing of the turbo, lets just say that soaked would be an understatement!
A few years ago, I modded a NA 2000 Mitsu Eclipse with a T3 turbo that had 230K miles on it. After 40K miles on that configuration, there was a light coating of oil in the intake an boost side of the turbo plumbing... we are talking about a turbo with a total of 270K miles on it! Not a factory fresh turbo with 3K miles!
Once this XC-70 hits 7500 miles, I will insist on a turbo replacement as well as an intake system and boost system flush along with new cats and O2 sensors. Am I asking for too much here?
Oh, by the way, someones comment about a nice S60 loaner at this dealership disappeared last year. They now offer loaner Volvos like ragged 240s, 740s, and 960s. Amazing that we are talking about the NUMBER ONE DEALERSHIP IN THE CAROLINAS!
Hope they choke on it!

Yep, you are asking too much. The O2 sensors and cat will not be adversly affected. Do insist on a new turbo and cleaning of air pipes.

Klaus:
Excellent response, I will back off the O2 sensors and cats, but after driving it today, the CEL light came on and the diag said misfires on #3 and #5 cylinders. Gee, I wonder why the plugs are fouling out... could it be oil?
Don't think I'll wait for the 7500 mile service, this pups going in next week.
Hope the dealership realizes that the turbo is toast and they have to remove the bevel gear to get to it! I'll follow up with the outcome.

Okay, the Dealer and Volvo were fair, new Turbo, intake flush, and a set of five spark plugs. No questions asked as it was smoking like a pig when I drove it in. Following this service, repair, no more oil burn, no more smoke, just lots of power.
I'm pleased that I didn't have to get nasty to have the problem corrected! In short, Cudo's to Volvo. The last time I had to deal with a dealer on a warranty issue with this level of significance (Chrysler), it took six months and a Lawyer to get it resolved. This is a nice change and I might even "cut" the Dealer a bit of "slack" from now on.
