evaporator replacement help S70

Hey all,

I have a unique problem. The jaguar dealership I purchased my 2000 s70 from is going to cover 1/2 the cost of replacing the evaporator, but I don't have any confidence they know how. Their techs do BMW, Mercedes and Jaguar routinely, but I've been told the s70 has very tricky quirks regarding removal of dash etc. I wanted to find VADIS type repair instructions to give to the dealership or at the very least tips on hidden clips, brackets etc. - any help?
Thanks

Have you checked with an indy Volvo shop? If they charge $50/hr. vs. $100 at the Jag dealer, know what they're doing, and take half the time, it might still be a lot cheaper than paying 1/2 of the cost of the Jag mechanics learning to do a Volvo. Plus hopefully the Volvo shop wouldn't screw up the airbags. Just a thought.

Actualy their quote was almost identical to the Jag dealership. My car came with a crazy 50/50 warranty where I have to pay half for covered repairs. I have to come out of pocket about 800, which is still better than I could find at even Tampa's best non-indy volvo shops who quoted about 1500 for the repair. Trust me, I tried to get some sort of credit ( I would have settled for way less than half) to let the volvo guys do it, but the dealership wasn't having it. I actually anticipated a BS bait and switch quote for 2500 from the Jag dealership, but I took it to Volvo first to keep them honest. Bottom line - I am not going to spend the extra 800 and let the Jag guys give it their best shot. If it's not right or the dash squeaks etc. I'll probably end up in court!

The Jag service manager assured me it would be done right with genuine volvo parts - we'll see.

Anything I can pass along regarding your airbag comment? Do you know of something unique to a volvo vs. Jag, Mercedes, BMW?
      Thanks for responding,
      Mike

Besides the 4/5 bolts on the outside of the firewall, you are looking at center console, steering wheel, glove box, ECC, radio, air damper controls, etc. Pretty impressive, when all that is left of the front of the interior is the firewall. It is about a 12hour job when mechanics know what they are doing. There is no short cut.
You might want to stop by a public library. They usually have Allddata databases for repairs and my have proceedures for a 70. You will then have to pay to print the relevant pages.
    Lots of luck,

    Klaus
