8 pin CD Changer wire to Ipod? 850

I'm hoping to use my long defunct cd changer cable to work as an Aux for to hook in my Ipod. My plan is to solder a male headphone wire into the right adn left audio on the 8 pin cable. I've already snipped the end off the wire and find 8 wires plus ground. The colors are blue, black, brown, orange, white, yellow, red, and teal. Anyone have insight whether this will work or not? Anyone know which colors are right and left audio?

Many thanks brickers.

Ben

I believe there are adapters out there that allow you to plug your Ipod into the factory radio. Try volvospeed.com. There has been lengthy discussion about this topic over there.

The cheapest one I've seen was 80.00 and you had to control the ipod with the ipod itself.

I think the trick is that the changer line has to send a signal to the stereo that a CD changer exists and found a disk to play. It isn't as simple as using it as a line level input. Thus the high price of these adapter boxes (which require you to tap into 12V to operate them...)

You can buy an direct adapter from IPD for $160 that goes to the cd changer input. Much easier plus you can take it with you when you get a new ride!

Some of these adaptors have nonstandard pinouts and won't work on very many different cars. As the other post indicates, logic signals are needed as well as the audio - and it is hard to find what these are, no less synthesize or duplicate them.

I chose to use an FM modulator (not as good as direct connection) or a tape adaptor (much worse than direct connection) in 2 different cars. If you use an FM modulator get a hard-wired one, not one that works by air transmission. Modern cars are very well shielded, electrically speaking.
